Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary

Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary is 88.4 sq. km. of semi-evergreen and evergreen forests located in the Western Ghats in Udupi district. Two unconnected parts make up the sanctuary, the smaller part situated southwest of the major part. To the southeast of the sanctuary lies the Kudremukh National Park. Mammals inhabiting the Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary include Tiger, Leopard, Wild Pig, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Wild Dog, Jackal, Gaur, Barking Deer, Lion Tailed Macaque, Bonnet Macaque and Common Langur. King Cobra, Python and Monitor lizard represent the reptile population. The sanctuary also houses interesting birds like Malabar Trogon, Ceylon frogmouth, Malabar pied hornbill and Malabar whistling thrush. Nearby tourist attractions include theOnke Abbi Falls, Agumbe, and Jamblu Tirtha.

The best time to visit the Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuar is between October and April.
